Travel Bites is a collection of short stories that criss-cross the globe. It is the first work by The Hungry Traveller who has combined his two great life passions: travelling and eating! The Hungry Traveller has been travelling for the last fifteen years and, along the way, has experienced many different sights, tastes and cultures. Central to his travel experiences has been the role of food. Through his unique and very personal style of storytelling, you too can share in the highs and lows of his stories from around the world. At the end of each story is a recipe for a dish inspired by his adventure. Travel Bites will capture your imagination and curiosity; and will leave you yearning to plan your next holiday, adventure or escape! We hope that you enjoy this book as much as The Hungry Traveller enjoyed sharing his experiences.

This book is exactly what the title implies! Short vignettes of food related travel tales. The format of the book is formulaic but that doesn’t detract from the work. Each chapter has a heading letting you know where the epicurean adventure occurred and ends with a related recipe. The stories are easy to read and cover the world in terms of locations. UK based readers will be able to identify with the author’s fish and chips experience in Brighton but at the same time be transported to the wilds of East Africa.

The book is immediate and easy reading with the relatively short chapters making it a great book for commuting! The recipes, despite coming from around the world, are tailored to the home cook and are easy to follow. The book isn’t, and doesn’t set out to be, high brow and honed literature. It is a chatty memoir of the Hungry Traveller’s adventures which are engaging whilst you are reading. The author is clearly American so this gives the book a certain slant on the places visited and food eaten, although more than one person will share the author’s view on mushy peas!!! The book would make a great gift as it covers two very common passions for a lot of people FOOD and TRAVEL together with it being a light read.
