Cat is trying to read a much-loved and classic children’s fairy tale to Dog. Parents will sympathise with Cat as he suffers question after question from inquisitive Dog.
Every once in a great while, a book comes along that combines story and illustrations so seamlessly and to such great effect that it looks effortless. This is such a book.

The Cat, The Dog, Little Red, The Exploding Eggs, The Wolf and Grandma’s Wardrobe is basically a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. The Cat is trying to read Little Red Riding Hood to his Dog friend, who asks a whole lot of questions.
As the questions get increasingly more frequent and the little cat gets increasingly more frustrated Little Red Riding Hood takes on some unexpected twists, whilst strangely also making some very valid points.
As a grown up, familiar with Red Riding Hood I found this hilarious, coupled with the charming cartoon illustrations at points I laughed out loud. Whether a young child would get quite as much from it I don’t know, there would have to be quite a level of understanding to be able to get the jokes and still appreciate the story.
If you want a book that you can really enjoy from cover to cover, that is witty and observant and utterly charming then this little delight is for you, especially if you have slightly older children that would appreciate the humour.
