If you are looking for ideas of things to do with the kids over the long summer holidays, then maybe consider a day train to the coast by train…
Taking the train to somewhere new has always been an exciting journey for a child and Southeastern have now launched a Summer Offer delivering reduced-price return tickets for Londoners looking to escape the city to Kent and East Sussex for as little as £15.
Running throughout the summer months, Off-Peak Day Return tickets to 13 of the most popular destinations across the South East will be slashed by around 30%. And what is more, the offer can be used alongside Southeastern’s ‘Kids for £1’ – meaning a family day out is really an affordable option!
Come rain or shine, whether traveling to visit friends in the country or taking a family trip to the coast this summer, it’s never been easier or more affordable to enjoy all of the adventures that Kent and East Sussex have to offer. For example:
- Travel by train from London to the historic towns of Rochester or Chatham for as little as £15 return;
- Go for the paddle in the sea at Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate, Hastings and Whitstable for just £20 return;
- Top up your tan and build the sandcastle you’ve always dreamed of at the beaches near Dover, Deal or Folkestone for £25 return.
Kent and East Sussex boast some of the best day-out destinations from London.
For sun-seekers looking to enjoy a family day-out with buckets and spades, beautiful Broadstairs has not just one, but seven stunning beaches and bays – one for each day of the week if you wanted to stay. Margate’s stunning golden sands are the perfect spot for a paddle, whilst Deal sports Kent’s only remaining leisure pier which is longer than the Titanic!
If stepping back in history is more your thing, why not spend a day exploring the impressive castle built by Henry VIII at Deal to protect England from the French or roam around the ruins of Hastings Castle and learn all about the story of the 1066 Norman invasion?
This year, Southeastern’s Summer Offer incorporates inland destinations as well as coastal resorts. Meaning, whatever the weather, train travellers can discover even more enchanting experiences across the South East such as Canterbury’s historic narrow, cobbled streets and the renowned cathedral which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Running until 24th August, the Summer Offer destinations form part of Southeastern’s hidden gems campaign – helping passengers discover unique places across the network from micro pubs and artisan crafts to picturesque beaches.
You can book your ticket in advance or even on the day of travel, so if the weather looks good pick a destination and off you go!
