Plans to deliver an exciting new secondary school in the Croxley Green area are gaining momentum.
Justin Donovan, Director of Education and Early Intervention for Hertfordshire County Council, has sent a letter to every Junior School parent within the Three Rivers and Watford areas. He sets out the need for a new secondary and the support of Hertfordshire County council.
He refers to the concern amongst parents that some Year 7 children have been allocated schools some distance from their homes because there is no room in their local secondary schools. He points out that recent forecasts for the Watford and Three Rivers areas predict a shortfall of places which will be of the order of nearly 11 forms (327 pupils) by 2019.
St Clement Danes School in Chorleywood is leading the proposal to build the new school and is delighted with the positive response from parents so far.
The goal is to open a new school in September 2016 with an initial intake of 180 pupils (six forms of entry) – but this will only happen if parents actively support the proposal. A potential location for The Croxley Green Secondary School has been identified by Hertfordshire County Council in Baldwins Lane.
Although it is still early days, parents are keen to know what the catchment area might be for the proposed new school.
Dr Josephine Valentine, Headteacher at St Clement Danes School, explained: “We would anticipate a broad catchment area for the first years because there would be 180 places and no sibling allocation. Traditionally around 50% of all secondary school places are taken up by siblings. This would not apply in the first year of admission to the new Croxley Green Secondary School.”
She also stressed that there will be no academic testing, which can account for upwards of 25% of pupil places for those who gain the best scores. This means that there will be more places for children from surrounding areas.
By April 30th prospective parents of pupils in Years 3 and 4 are asked to show their support for The Croxley Green Secondary School by completing a parental support survey. This can be found at http://www.croxleygreenschool.org.uk/parental-survey.html
