What we say: “We were booked in to the Brumus Bar & Restaurant at 1.30pm for the Bear Hunt Afternoon Tea. The Bear Hunt show finished at 1pm which gave us more than enough time to take a slow amble from the Lyric Theatre down to the beautiful Haymarket Hotel.

Where to start, the hotel is so easy to find being just a five minute walk from Piccadilly tube, making it a perfect choice for any pre or post Theatre experience. When we walked in we were instantly greeted by the concierge who showed us through to the Brumus Bar. Everywhere you look in the Haymarket, you will find exquisite pieces of art and the décor is simply breath-taking . Kit Kemp has done a wonderful job of creating a truly unique and luxurious environment, which with a 3 year old, initially filled me with worry. I need not have worried.

The staff were simply amazing, We were shown to our table by the manager. He took the time to speak to my little boy Noah even before he had spoken to us properly, asking his name, about the Bear Hunt show and what parts he enjoyed. He treated Noah like he was one of his most important guests that day, and for me as a mum, that made us all feel special and set the tone for the whole experience.

Once seated, our waiter came over and again took a lot of time talking to Noah and making him feel welcome. Noah had The We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Afternoon Tea and we chose the Traditional Afternoon Tea with a very welcome glass of Pommery Champagne. Our drinks order were taken and Noah couldn’t decide between hot chocolate or apple juice so they kindly bought him both. For the adults there is a long list of teas and coffees as well as a selection of wines and champagnes.

The table is beautifully laid out as you would expect and a very clever (and welcome) touch was the plastic glasses used for the children which look like real glass. The teas were brought out by our waiter and he took the time to explain everything on the plates, again spending longer with Noah, talking him through his beautifully presented (and very clever) plate of food. The Bear Hunt tea contains, Ham and Cheese bear sandwich, Bear Hunt vanilla cupcake, Marshmallow chocolate lollipop, Paw print chocolate cookie and a chocolate bear with caramel filling. The plate is beautifully presented and perfect for little boys and girls.

Noah’s face was a picture and he couldn’t wait to tuck into his food. At £12  per child, it is a treat but coupled with the whole experience it was definitely worth it.  Throughout the whole time, our waiter regularly came over and asked if everything was ok, I cannot fault their service and customer care.

Our Traditional Cream Tea with Champagne was divine, we asked for a few changes and nothing was too much trouble.  The scones were warm and the cakes and sandwiches were delicious. Initially when you look at the plates you think you will easily finish everything, how wrong we were! We had to try everything as it was so delicious but towards the end we were struggling as so full although we did just about manage it! For London at £32 per head, I felt was a standard price but the quality and service put it way above similar experiences I have had.

As a family we really enjoyed our afternoon out and would highly recommended this experience; the staff went out of their way to make us feel special and relaxed, a real treat.”
