What they say: Toddler a**holery is a normal part of human development not unlike puberty, except this stage involves throwing food on the floor and taking swings at people who pay your way in life. For parents of toddlers, it’s a “you better laugh so you don’t cry” period. Bunmi Laditan’s hilarious, satirical guide to toddlerhood offers parents instant (and very welcome) comic relief along with the very good news that “It’s Not Your Fault.”
What we say:
I expected a funny read with this book and for there to be some humours stories and glimmers of recognition to my own life. Whilst this is true and this is a funny read it also seems like one mum’s rant about their own life. There was a definite edge in this book some anger and annoyance. Whilst it is meant to be light hearted in parts it made me quite angry – this seems a negative, rather than laugh out loud, book about the life of a toddler. Also, living in England some of the American references didn’t make sense, so I guess some of the points were ‘lost in translation’!
Is it worth a read? It is funny in parts and it did ring true in others. I could recognise my toddler, but it also made me think actually he’s pretty great really and many of the things in the book he doesn’t do (yet!). However, be prepared for the language and the ranting!
