What they say: “He was out of this world, only meant to be seen, in a book, in a movie, or maybe a dream…” A boy and his mum cycle through the park, hoping to get home before the sun goes down. But neither of them expect what emerges in the twilight – a strange creature with an unexpected tale to tell…

What we say: “This book arrived today which was handy as my granddaughter was over for lunch. We opened it together and when she saw the front cover she had a smile on her face. She opened the book immediately for us to look at together.

The first thing that struck me were the charming illustrations.  Very child friendly and lots that you could use to talk about on each page.

We started to read it and by the end of the first TWO pages she already realised that there were lots of rhyming words. It reminded me of Julia Donaldson books in that respect. She enjoyed thinking of other rhyming words as we went through the book too. I noticed that it also talked about colours, so can be used as a fun way to teach your child colours as well as rhyming words.

A lovely story that I can see we will be reading over and over again!”

My 6 yr old son loved reading The Smoth. He said it was better than The Gruffalo. I am also a childminder and the children I care for loved it too. A lovely book to read with great illustrations.

A fantastic book, well received by all to whom I have gifted a copy to.

Love the story and accompanying illustrations, a book to be read again, again and again!!!

Thank you so much Sandra for this very encouraging review; I’m so pleased that you both enjoyed it.

Waterstones online currently shows The Smoth as unavailable and even their call centre doesn’t know why and they are investigating. Until this gets resolved, note that The Smoth is also available online at Foyles and Browns bfs.

    Happy reading. xx
