What they say: There is something for everyone at Cardinham Woods. Our walking trails will take you deep into the woods to discover stunning viewpoints and an intriguing history. Our cycling trails will take you on an exhilarating ride through some beautiful scenery.
What we say: “We visited Cardinham Woods for the Zog trail. What a beautiful setting with stunning scenery!
We picked up our activity pack from the very pretty Woods Café. Within the activity pack there was a booklet with fun activities, a Zog mask to get you thinking like Zog and a special lens! We set off to find Zog and his friends by following the trail markers through the woods to find the characters from the story and collect stars like Zog did in the book. We used the special lens to find hidden pictures along the trail.
Unfortunately my son didn’t cope well with the 1.5 mile walk so unfortunately we didn’t finish the trail. The trail itself is all flat and accessible, with four marked trails and a number of cycle tracks. There are very clean toilets with changing facilities along with disabled access and ample parking (pay and display). There is even a dog washing service!
After the trail we headed to the Wood Café for a cream tea and some lunch for my son. This is such a beautiful setting with a huge outdoor play area for children with wooden framed climbing areas, outside seating areas, seating inside and a terrace out the back of the café.
The café is very vintage and decorated to high standard. There was a really varied menu on offer, with fresh options for vegetarians, vegans and Gluten free diners.
Myself and my mum went for a cream team and my son chose a children’s cheese sandwich. I can honestly say that this was one of the best cream teas we have ever had (and we’ve tried plenty, I’m very close to saying that it was better than the Ritz in London).
We had one raisin and one plain scone – they came out warm with Cornish clotted cream and the tastiest strawberry jam! I would go back just for one of the cream teas! The staff in the Café were very helpful and were happy to answer all our questions.
Cardinham Woods is so beautiful and peaceful, with lots for children to do. I would recommend the Zog trail for older children or just for a nice stroll in a beautiful setting!”
