Hours: 24/7!

Childcare arrangements:  2 grown-up boys – one working in London and one at university

What I love about work:  Being my own boss and only having myself to answer to!  Creating new designs/products for other people to enjoy and use which benefit their lives

What I find difficult is:  Juggling homelife with work – finding that happy medium is more difficult than I imagined

My working life would be easier if…   I had a full-time housekeeper, cook and cleaner!

Work/mum life balance:  Finding the balance is quite hard – it is very easy to become totally absorbed in your work at the detriment of being a mum.  Fortunately, my boys are grown-up but that still means there are the long university holidays when my youngest needs me around.  My eldest son divides his time between home and London – so he hasn’t quite fled the nest yet either.  They still want Mum to do their washing and cooking – because that is what I used to do.  Having said that, they are both good cooks and if I am not around they are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves.

How having children has changed the work I do:  If I hadn’t had children I am sure my career would have been very different but possibly not as fulfilling?  I took a break from work when the boys were young and despite helping my husband out with his business taking the leap at the age of 50 to start my own business from scratch was the biggest challenge of my life.

Fantasy job / If I wasn’t doing this, I’d be…  I can’t answer this as I am doing my fantasy job; it might not be very easy a lot of the time but it is the job I always dreamed of.

Mojomums helps mums get their mojo back – what advice would you give to mums who feel they have lost theirs?    Try and think of something that you really enjoy doing and then set yourself a challenge within that activity/project.  To achieve something you thought never possible will give you the drive you thought you had lost forever.

Anything else?  Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
