Names: Julie Wilson & Amy Livingstone
Number of children: 1 and 2 respectively
Job title: Co-founders and directors
Duties: We set up in 2013 and manage our exciting, growing business together. Between us we manage the key areas and teams across the business including product development, export, sales and marketing, procurement and finance.
Hours: Officially we both work three days a week in the office, in reality we’re on phone and email full time (perhaps a little more!).
Childcare arrangements: A constant juggle between spouses, grandparents and school.
What I love about work: We love developing our own business, creating opportunities for new products, new customers and new markets. Our journey has been an exciting one since we identified a gap in the market for a teether that stays attached to the baby when our own babies were teething. Five years on we have nine products in many high street stores and export to 35 countries! The pace and challenges of running a fast growing company is really motivating as is the feedback from parents and retailers about their love for our cheeky everyday parenting essentials that make life that little bit easier.
What I find difficult is: Not being able to take advantage of every opportunity due to rapid growth .. never getting to the end of the to do list?!
My working life would be easier if… I won’t be the only one to say this but it would be helpful to have more hours in the day!
Work/mum life balance: We do strive to have a work/mum balance… working three days in the office helps us have time to pick up from school and spend good quality time with them – however its always a challenge when mobile phones are at a handy distance to pick up issues round the clock!
How having children has changed the work I do: Amy and I were lucky to meet through having children however we never imagined we’d set up business together soon after! The business came out of our experience of teething little ones and whilst for a while it meant being new mums, working in our day jobs and starting a business – our little ones have inspired us to develop a completely new working life and a thriving business!
Fantasy job / If I wasn’t doing this, I’d be… We like to keep busy but some time in the sun on a beach on Barbados is very tempting….
Mojomums helps mums get their mojo back – what advice would you give to mums who feel they have lost theirs? If you have an idea that you genuinely believe fills a gap in the market … then do something about it. Or in general do something you’re passionate about and get a real buzz from. That way you can be a happy motivated mum when you spend time with your little one!
