Berlin, Germany

Berlin shines in a festive blaze of lights every year in the period before Christmas. There are about 60 Christmas markets to wander round & enjoy. On grand boulevards & squares & also in small side streets & in museums, they’ll surprise you with their magic, charm & Christmassy delicacies. There’s something for everyone here – Charlottenburg Palace is a mix between winter culinary delights, christmas shopping & a visit of palace & park while the Winter World at Potsdamer Platz offers fast fun on the largest mobile toboggan run in Europe, which is 12 metres high & 70 metres long!

Vienna, Austria

Vienna’s Christkindlmarkt is a long-running festival that celebrates Austria’s favourite time of year.  If you’re there to shop, make sure you head to Spittelberg, the foremost shopping district with lovely narrow streets lined with every gift you could dream of!  Scattered throughout the city are stalls offering delicious traditional cuisine, including sweet chestnuts, or maroni, & lots of waffeln – waffles!  Oh, & plenty of sweetened wine & hot punch too!  Visitors from all over the world enjoy Austria’s Christmas markets each year, so the atmosphere is always buzzing.  Make sure you head to the elaborately decorated Christmas trees in the park – here you’ll find photo opportunities with famous tree decorations including the ‘Kasperl tree’, the tree with the seals, & the ‘Herzerlbaum’, the hearts tree.

Prague, Czech Republic

With its breathtaking views, Prague is an idyllic destination for Christmas markets. Rows of bright wooden huts line the streets, with vendors selling everything from ornaments & toys to festive culinary fare.  The markets typically run from 9am until 7pm during the festive season, with the main markets being located at the Old Town Square & Wenceslas Square,  the perfect place to stock up on traditional Christmas trinkets or find a wonderful gift for friends & family back home! Take a photo in front of the huge Old Town Square Christmas tree & look at the nativity scenes which are on display.


Brussels, Belgium

Winter Wonderland”, Brussels’s extensive traditional Christmas market, takes place on the Place Sainte Catherine & the Bourse with around 150 exhibitors from all over Europe offering traditional arts & crafts, jewellery & of course, Belgian chocolates, for sale alongside an artificial ice-rink & numerous street artists.  It would be rude not to sample a glass or two of Belguim beer while shopping for those Christmas gifts!  Easy to get to by Eurostar, this Christmas market can be visited within a day trip.
Lille, France

Another day trip option is the biggest Christmas market in the north, Lille.  Attracting nearly 1 million visitors to Place Rihour & the surrounding streets, the Grand Place is transformed by a majestic mix of illuminations & the sound of Christmas carols. The market is home to over 80 wooden chalets & stalls offering all manner of festive goodies & culinary delights.  Father Christmas also makes regular appearances!  For a stunning view of this historic city, why not take a trip on the 50 metre high Big Wheel or if you prefer to keep your feet firmly on the ground, why not shop till you drop in the 3900 shops in the city…
