Mojomums Kelly & her young family spent a week in Cheddar Woods Lodges this September – here is her review…

“I’m a great lover of UK holidays & still not quite brave enough to face a flight with our 2 year old twins, so I chose to spend a week in Somerset in a new self catering complex called Cheddar Woods

On arrival at the complex we were very impressed – the grounds were beautifully maintained, staff at reception were very friendly & helpful, & the wooden style lodges looked large, if a little close to eachother…

We booked a Cheddar Lodge Premier & were not disappointed!  The lodge was huge!  2 bedrooms (1 ensuite), a family bathroom & large open plan kitchen, living, dining area – with a private hot tub on the decking…spotlessly clean & with all the mod cons you would expect (free wifi, large flat screen TV with freeview, DVD player, fully kitted kitchen…)

We settled the boys & unpacked our online food delivery (a great tip if you are holidaying in the UK – saves searching for supermarkets when you get there!) & then headed off to explore the rest of the site…

The swimming pool was a great size & lovely & warm with a shallow kids area that doubled up as a jacuzzi; the childrens play ground had plenty to keep kids of all ages happily entertained; the soft play was just off the bar area (Dad thought this was ideal!); indoor 2 lane bowling alley that appeared to be open all day; tennis courts, golf simulator, climbing wall, childrens supervised clubs & more were available if you wanted…

We really used the accommodation as a base; our plans were to head out for the days & use the swimming pool & playgrounds when we returned – the lodges were ideally located to be able to see lots of whats on offer in the area; we explored the Cheddar Caves, had an old-fashioned seaside day at Weston-Super-Mare (chips on the beach, bucket & spade!), visited the famous lions at Longleat (a great day out for all ages!), explored the outlet shops at Street – a great time was had by all!

We ate dinner in the lodges onsite restaurant a couple of times – not the cheapest of meals but good quality, locally produced pub style food.  Children were welcome with their own menu, plenty of high chairs & crayons & paper provided while you waited for your meals – happy days!”

Overall opinion of holiday:

“We would definitely return to Cheddar Woods.  The staff were so welcoming, the pool was just what we needed after a busy day out & the lodge was great – you do get what you pay for though; family joined us for a few nights in a 3 bed Mendip lodge which was much smaller & not as well equiped as ours.  I liked that we had the choice to eat onsite – the bar & restaurant area really did have a hotel style atmosphere.  The overall feel of the lodges, facilities & their grounds were of a stylish, premium holiday site – highly recommended!”
