Career, Children, or Children Career?

When is the best time to start your career?  When you are young, enthusiastic, fearless and have no huge financial ties?  Or when you are slightly older with life experience, have had children, possibly have a mortgage and know exactly what you want from life?

Kirsty Allsopp is all over the news and causing debate in this subject…What do you think?

Personally I choose career when I was young.  I left school knowing that I wanted to work in the travel industry.  I worked hard, enjoyed the holiday perks while I was footloose and child free and then as time went by, I decided I wanted to settle down and have children…

At this time I also realised that I wanted a change in career – a new challenge, new focus, new beginnings.  But as most of us mums know, it’s not always that easy when you have children.  You do have to make adjustments.  You may have to accept that your career may not ‘take off’ as quickly as before children – you have extra responsibilities. You do have to juggle childcare.  You may feel guilty…

So when is ‘the right time’ to throw yourself into your career?  Surely it is possible to have both – before children and again after children?  Come to think of it, when is ‘the right time’ to even have children?!?!  Mojomums would love to hear what you have chosen…
