Can a trip to the cinema be romantic?

My husband & I used to love going to the cinema to see the newest releases – who cared if it was something we really wanted to watch; it was a cheap (ish) night out, we had the film to chat about on the way home& well, I love popcorn & pick-n-mix!

Nowadays, when we get a babysitter we tend to want to make ‘more’ of our night out; dinner, cocktails, meeting up with friends; so when my hubby suggested an evening at a cinema I started to look into somewhere more special than our local cine-complex…

The Rex, Berkhampsted

Open nearly every day throughout the year, The Rex in Berkhampsted sells out pretty much every film it shows.   New & different movies run most days & nights & only the block-busters’s run longer, but more often the small, little known films from across the world, return by demand to a full house.  A 1938 art-deco building with large, luxourious seating, intimate candle-lit tables for 4, with a  good wine list & snacks on plates – this is a little gem hidden in a beautiful Hertfordshire town…

The Everyman Cinemas

Stretch out on sofas for two (complete with footstool) & sip from glasses of wine served from your own personal wine cooler, whilst nibbling daintily from individual bowls of cashews; the only thing left for you to do is to put your feet up & wait for the film to start…The Everyman Cinemas have a few select venues across the UK & are well worth a visit; from the moment you arrive at the cinema you feel right at home –  but with a beautifully stocked cocktail bar & freshly popped corn!

The Electric, Birmingham

The UK’s oldest working picture house is as quaint as they come. Choose between two, three & five-seat sofas complete with waiter service – just send the bartender a text message to receive your drinks direct from the art deco bar!  The monthly listings include an eclectic range of mainstream, independent & foreign films, as well as popular silent movies with live musical accompaniment
