My older two children (7 & 11) love build-a-bear but my youngest three (5) have never been. When I told them we would go in the school holidays they talked about it for weeks and were very excited as we headed to our nearest store at INTU Uxbridge.
The store team work really hard and are great with the children. We were greeted by our very own build-a-bear expert who stayed with us to guide us through the build-a-bear journey. The kids were quick to get to work choosing their bears. There is a huge range of bears to suit every childs taste and they display them all finished so they children can see what they are getting.
We had two monsters (my favourite) which has a range of arms and legs for you to choose, Marshall from paw patrol, a unicorn and a traditional bear.
Next stop – scent! you can choose from lots of lovely scents to make your bear smell nice and the children chose bubblegum and strawberry! the scents last up to 18 months and are inserted inside the bear along with an optional beating heart and the traditional small padded heart. There is a small ceremony that the kids loved before the heart is added to their bear.
We also chose some sounds, some of the sounds match the characters and some are random and are inserted to a marked area on the bear so the children know where to push. They include things like barking, sayings and songs.
The bears are then stuffed and its on to the wash area followed by the literally dozens and dozens of outfits and accesories! You can even choose coordinated nightwear and slippers!
All in all we spent a good hour or so in the store. The children left with very high quality branded bears that would probably cost more if bought without the fun, especially taking into account the offers they have running at the moment (two bears for £26) . The children loved every part of the experience and believed the whole experience. It certainly makes the bears more special and the birth certificates that the children create are all displayed in their rooms.
In short we had a great time, built memories and bears and we loved every minute of it – as a treat for the children, a way to spend birthday or pocket money or for a party I would recommend you take a visit! they also do vouchers which would make a great present.
