Roald Dahl Day – 13 September

Ahh, the kids have gone back to school, peace, normality and routine can commence…

That is, until they come home one evening armed with a letter saying that in a few days time the school will be joining in the celebrations of Roald Dahl Day, World Book Day or Dress Up As…Day!!!

Panic and fear!

I have one child who is more than happy to dress up and another who is too cool for even wearing a fancy dress hat, let alone a whole outfit and I have just one weekend to come up with suitable attire for both!

Well, that was last years scenario…this year I sat smugly as I knew Roald Dahl Day was early in September and I was going to BE PREPARED!!!

The Dahlicious Dress Up Day is part of Roald Dahl Day celebrations on 13th September, schools and groups dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character and donate their marvellous money to Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

We decided to start our planning with a visit to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Buckinghamshire during the summer school holidays…

What a lovely little museum this is! Perfect for youngsters as everything is so hands on with lots of dressing up, arts and crafts, stories…we had a great morning!

If you get the chance to visit, go – it’s full of information and I loved learning about my favourite childhood author too!

So, we had the ideas ready, we knew which character we were dressing up as and we were excited and ready…only for no school letter to appear!!!
