Cleanse 9 Forever Living (Diet) – does it work?
So I have been known to try a diet or two in my time!!! (husband coughs and splutters!!) and finally after my triplets were born and I knew that I was definitely not having any more children I was motivated enough to get to my goal weight. At that weight I am a comfortable size 10 – in any shop and it feels fabulous to be that size for the first time in over 10 years. As my body shrank my wardrobe expanded and I had the confidence to wear the clothes that I always wanted to.
Having hovered around my goal for a few years now I tend to go up a bit seasonally (xmas) and then summer holidays too but always reach my lowest weight once more for my annual girls 4 night break to spain in October.
This year I have struggled, as the weeks got nearer I started to dread the holiday wishing it was still a month away as the motivation was lacking and my usual diet was not working for me, me not the diet! There was no way I was going to fit in my nice glam dresses as I am 10lbs! (how the heck did that happen) on last year! – I normally get smaller each year for Marbs, I was planning an all time low this year but thats just not happened!
So it is with 10 days to my holiday that I start the Cleanse 9 diet (cutting it fine I know).
I read a lot of reviews and they seems to be mostly positive and I was mostly desperate!
So it promises to deliver results, cleanse the body, make you healthier, give you energy and in principal I actually agree with it and what it does in terms of cleanse your body, no processed foods etc.
So I phoned a friend who I know is a consultant for Forever Living and she was able to deliver me my box the next day! she also showed me what to do, answered all the questions and told me she would be on hand whenever I needed her! easy!
The basics are as follows:
2 hardcore days of lots of tablets, some disgusting gel that you drink like a shot (all natural and good for you) that suppress your appetite, give you energy, cleanse your body etc (we will get to the Aloe gel later) and 1, yes 1 milkshake!
The good news is that its just two days and the you can have a milkshake for breakfast and lunch plus a 600 calorie meal (natural ingredients no precessed foods) but you can have carbs! (mexican wave).
SO here is my honest diary with weight loss!
So I got up today and took two bullet sized tablets and then I waited for 20 mins (as stated) before doing my two shots of Aloe Gel. Now I had been told the Aloe gel was bad, read a whole Facebook document dedicated to handling aforementioned gel and really honestly thought these women were exaggerating – but really they were not! its bad – its terrible bad – it tastes like bile and it stung my throat like bile too!
HOWEVER its two small shots and you have to take it 4 x a day the first two days and then twice a day after that! so really its terrible but its bearable! for 9 days, for the health benefits of the Aloe Shot and besides a lot of women are telling me its worth it so I’m in!
Mid morning snack consisted of two bee pollen tablets!
I really really looked forward to my milkshake at lunchtime and I had the vanilla which was lovely. In the evening its more aloe and more Garcinia and THAT IS IT! the funny thing is though that I wasn’t hungry at all! not one bit! I guess the garcinia (appetite sup present) tablets work and I also feel driven to do this properly and see the results for myself so no food means no food!
Lets see how I get on tomorrow!
And repeat! really there isn’t much else to say, a round of aloe and bee pollen please! – with a side of Garcinia to keep the hunger pains at bay!
Its now 5pm and I have a few aloe (nose holding) shots ahead and then its an early night. I have to admit to not been hungry again today and its really not that bad! I don’t think I could more than two days and I am REALLY looking forward to my milkshake for breakfast and dinner tomorrow!
My normal diet doesn’t allow any carbs and its less calories for an evening meal so I am really looking forward to my dinner of cooked chicken with a couple of potatoes and lots of veg tomorrow! I am also looking forward to half the amount of Aloe shots too – though I had it very cold tonight, almost frozen cold and I put the two shots in one cup – closed my eyes thought about a work issue and it wasn’t that bad! honest!
I will also weigh in tomorrow so will let you know how that goes…….

I was so excited to go to bed last night and wake up today that it almost beat the same feelings I have on a hangover day! I woke wandering why I felt different and then I remembered ‘its day three’ Yippppeeeeee – I didn’t need the work of my daylight alarm to get me out of bed this morning no sireeee there is a milkshake waiting for me!
First things first the big and famous day 3 weigh in! – what will the scales say! anything is better than what I was, but I am secretly hanging after a good loss and I was not disappointed with 4lbs! in 2 days! maybe this aloe stuff really works! mind you despite not bring hungry I have really only consumed two milkshakes and whole load of tablets and gel in those two days!
So after brushing my teeth I go downstairs and down the slimey gunk with a slight feeling that it wasn’t as bad as the day before or the day before that! progress!
Day three is a breeze, it hardly feels like a diet at all and I look forward to another shake at lunch time. I struggle to remember the new order of things and nearly skip my bee tablets but I’ve got a photo of my plan on my phone (there isn’t a document in my house I’ve not got a photo of! top busy mum tip) so I do a little swatting!
Being a super organised top tip kinda mum I come home and move swiftly onto dinner completely forgetting all my tablets and Aloe! but I catch up (sure thats not the right way but I was so excited by the thought of rice!).
So dinner – I had 100g (weighed uncooked) of brown rice mixed with fresh chicken and some veg – 587 calories or so according to my fitness pal!
The good news is I thought I had another Aloe shot to go but its day three so I’m done!
My dinner was huge, I am full up and I AM NOT going to weight myself tomorrow as instructed! – promise!
I have been warned that if you weight yourself between day 4 and day 8 you could be misled as your body adjusts to the food and your body adjusts to the healthy eating – but in the name of this blog and my curiosity I plan on weighing myself everyday so you know exactly what to expect and get a full picture. I know enough about diets to not expect a loss tomorrow but will post my result anyway.
I also plan on telling you what I eat and the calories. I am a useless cook but I will also link some recipes to this blog, so if you have any recipes under 600 calories, I have just created a brand new category where you can add them.
On a serious note, I wanted to say that I really like this diet. There are a few things that could be improved, like the taste of the Aloe and ready made cartons of milkshake would be fab for us busy mums! but all in all I really get this diet! Ive resisted it as my perception was it was a fad diet, forever living seemed to be everywhere for a while and someone was always trying to sell me Aloe vera in one form or another – but I really never gave it the time it deserved. You can’t argue with the facts and health benefits of the products and it really isn’t a fad diet, if you don’t treat it that way. I am impressed that they get you to eat a sensible amount of calories a day, that you can eat carbs and fruit and that there are also other plans and complete lifestyle changes you can make and that are encouraged!

It contains more amino acids than beef, eggs, or cheese of equal weight. About half of its protein is in the form of free amino acids that are ready to be used directly by the body.
Its late I know but it has been a very hectic few days x
Day four – and my day at home with the triplets – usually one of my most challenging days as I am generally at home and in reach of food.
My weight was the same again today, I had a little panic and then reminded myself of all of the posts I have read of multiple people saying the exact same thing – but with my holiday looming I must admit to having a fleeting moment of ditching the diet and starving myself for a few days!
Again I wasn’t hungry but I am still morning my morning cuppa and did set about trying every herbal tea we have in our cupboard – some didn’t even pass the smell test let alone the taste test and I decided it was just torture and so I moved on to water!
I packed the triplets up and we went over to my mums for lunch, she made the kids lunch and I had my milkshake. The shakes are really enough for me and I find them filling and they seem to taste nicer every day too. The aloe however has peaked at its improvement and is about as good as it will get! and thats not good.
In my evening rush of two school runs and parents evening I forgot to take my garcinia tablets and moved straight onto dinner! we had grilled salmon a few new potatoes and salad – yummy. MUST REMEMBER THE GARCINIA!!

Oh dear, day five!! where to start!
I said I would be honest in my blog and I deliberated lying and making up some perfect day but no I am going to confess all!
We got up extra early this morning as its my middle daughters birthday and we had presents to open! – its also a school day for all the children and doing 4 girls hair takes time!
My oldest daughter had a consultant appointment in London so we were heading straight there after school drop off for a 10am appointment (45mins appointment).
The first thing to go wrong was we were running late, I have a phobia about being late and it got to the point where I had taken my garcinia and aloe and looked at the clock and knew that if I made a shake now the kids would def be late for school, so I figured I would just have it when I got back, which should have been around 11.30!
The journey into London was long, slow and boring and we were all cursing our decision to drive! I had the taste of the aloe in my mouth and was hungry! despite it being a private clinic we had nhs length waiting times and so I first gave in to a few bites of a diet cereal bar I had in my bag – the other options were packaged biscuits and tea and coffee on offer at the clinic – so I opted for a few delicious bites of my bar!
My husband and Daughter had Mc Donald’s on the way home and I waited – patiently for my milkshake which I ended up having at 1.45! followed by a organic decaf cup of tea with a very little tiny weeny splash of skimmed milk that I justified to myself was from the now forgotten breakfast shake! it had been a tiring day and I gave in at the tea!
I again forgot my garcinia and evening aloe – mostly due to us having a birthday party and all our family over but I ate only good foods and stuck within my calorie allowance and avoided any of the sweet treats including the gooey chocolate birthday cake!
Today I also got my period…..
So a weird day, and I know I broke the tea thing – but lets be honest here I am going to spain with 6 friends next week and will be drinking cocktails and eating everything bad so I am not doing this to make a life style change right now and rid my body of anything bad!

The program has been carefully designed to give optimum results and as such it is vital that you follow it precisely. Only weigh and measure yourself on the days specified as fluctuations are normal as your body adjusts throughout the various stages of the plan and extra weigh- ins may reveal slight gains mid-week. Perfectly normal but can be very damaging to your confidence and willpower!!
The diet is really easy and is now becoming second nature. I look forward to my evening meal but also like that fact that if I want to eat something earlier I can and a nice piece of fruit that I then deduct from my evening allowance has become a real treat.
I am hoping for a loss tomorrow as I certainly feel less bloated ! lets see!
What a difference a day can make! YIPPPEEEEE 2 lbs down so a total of 5 lbs which I am very happy with and I still have three days to go.
Since day 3 the days have flown by and apart from missing my cups of tea, which I am still not totally happy about, I could definitely do this diet for a lot longer than 9 days!
My dinner tonight was some roasted chicken with some wholemeal pasta and vegetables – yummy xxx
Another pound down and I am now only 5 lbs off my lowest weight! its still 5 lbs but considering its taken me 6 weeks of hard dieting to stay the exact same weight I am taking my total weight loss of 6 lbs in 8 days and I am keeping it!
I definitely feel less bloated too and in all honesty I really haven’t made the most of the diet either so I know if I had I would have lost more!
Its very hard to stay motivated on the ‘cleanse side’ of things when I know that I am heading to Marbs for 4 nights in a ‘Deluxe (premium brands and cocktails) All Inclusive hotel! so I have let myself slip here and there with the off cup of tea! and I haven’t made the best meal choices. I haven’t gone off plan or over calories but have filled up on carbs and not the veg I should have been!
Best of all I went lunch time shopping today and managed to try on 6 dresses and buy 4 dresses in 20 minutes! All 6 dresses fitted and it was just a case of choosing those I likes the best! – a week ago I know I wouldn’t have fitted these dresses and the dressing room would have been a very different place!
Im done and really I don’t feel like I really started – I wouldn’t say the Aloe was my friend, I won’t miss it and I never liked it, but drinking it became a tolerable yet annoying part of my day – like brushing my teeth or bathing tired children. The shakes I love and found very filling and the diet itself is easy and it works!
I am looking forward to a final weight in tomorrow and will post my results!
When I get back from Marbs and I am half a stone heavier on account of the all inclusive cocktails – I plan to give this diet a second try. I think it deserves my full attention and look forward to the results I get when I do it by the book.
I have seen some amazing pictures and results over on the local Facebook group and I think it would be fair to say that this diet is a good one and it works! I really hope that people who are not just doing it to lose some pre all inclusive free cocktail weight actually stick to it after they finish and make some life long changes and I can see that it could really help people adapt how they eat and live in the long term.
So does it work? Yes it does work. Like most diets, if you stick to it properly you can’t really go wrong and you will lose weight. It is nowhere near as extreme as some of the quick loss diets out there and the results seem to be consistently good. I was surprised how much weight I lost considering the overall calories intake is much higher than other diets.
Is it easy? Yes and No. The first few days are tough – and reading the posts on FB, they are tougher on some than others. I didn’t find them that bad, but I struggled with the Aloe. After that in my opinion it is easy.
This diet however has a different aim and that is to cleanse the body. The problem is that us women are more desperate to lose weight than we are to cleanse our bodies – maybe that comes after the weight loss – after all what we would have to talk about if we all hit our goal weight and stayed there! talking about diets and our weight is as british as talking about the weather! So for now the diet that is Cleanse 9 is viewed by many as a fad diet – because that is how most of us (me included) are treating it.
The Facebook pages are full of results and pictures and not many people are mentioning the health benefits of which there seems to be many! we aimlessly pop pills and drink foul tasting slime without questioning the benefits behind these things. I certainly wasn’t wandering if my skin looked clearer or if my bowel was cleansed as I jumped out and bed each morning and headed straight for the scales, but the fact is the health benefits are there and maybe we need to talk about these more (when we’ve lost some weight of course).
I intend to do just that when I get back. I know there is a follow on program and you can buy all of the elements of the diet seperatley so I plan on doing a bit of research and seeing what I can do to change my eating habits forever.
